Marshall was incorporated in 1872 and the city's charter was adopted on August 22, 1969. It's government structure is Home Rule Charter, operated by Mayor/City Council with an appointed city administrator. Marshall's City Hall is located in the downtown business district at 344 West Main Street. It is open from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM. You may reach the city via the city administrators office at (507) 537-6760.

Location:
143 miles southwest of Minneapolis, MN and 88 miles northeast of Sioux Falls, SD, Marshall is located in Lyon County. US Highway 59 and State Highways 68, 23 and 19 intersect the city.

Flat to gently rolling terrain. January average high temperature: 20 degrees, average low temperature: -5 degrees. August average high temperature: 81, low 55. Seasonal snowfall average 35 inches. Average rainfall, 27.13 inches.

Economic Base:
Major employers include The Schwan Food Company, Southwest Minnesota State University, US Bancorp, Weiner Memorial Medical Center, Marshall Public Schools, HyVee Foods, Archer Daniels Midland,, BH Electronics, County Fair Food Store.

Marshall's primary emphasis in 2003-2004 is in attracting a highly skilled workforce for current industry openings. Positions exist at all levels in Marshall's businesses and industries, and training opportunities give employees the opportunity to sharpen their skills for the future and advance in their careers right here in Marshall, MN.
